James H. Barnhardt Student Activity Center

The James H. Barnhardt Student Activity Center (232,000 total square feet) is the focal point of the campus. As a social, dining, and recreational center for the campus community, the SAC contains a food court, game room, jogging track, recreational courts, climbing wall, weight room, group fitness room, and training center which offer students, staff, and faculty an opportunity to indulge in non-academic activities which promote communication, community, health, and fitness. The facility also holds a 10,000 seat event arena which is used for commencements, intercollegiate athletic competition, concerts, cheerleader competitions, tournaments, job fairs, trade shows, large scale parties, or University events. University organizations as well as external groups can also take advantage of the Hospitality Salons in the facility, to host meetings, banquets, or even weddings. The building space is flexible to meet the needs of the user. The administrative offices for Athletics, Recreational Facilities Management, and some of the Recreational Services Departments are also housed in the building. In 2003, the opening of the Miltimore-Wallis Athletic Training and Academic Center (ATAC) added another 40,000 square feet of facility space. Within this space are a practice gym, an athletic fitness area, academic area, video room, reception area, and additional athletic offices. The SAC is open seven days per week, ranging from eleven to seventeen hours per day.
