Climbing Wall

The Climbing Wall is located on the East Recreational Court inside the James H. Barnhardt Student Activity Center. It is operated by the UNC Charlotte Venture Program.

Built by Arete Climbing Systems, the Wall consists of a custom-sculpted climbing surface, with additional holds attached. Natural features (cracks, aretes, roofs, chimneys) give the look and feel of real rock, and numerous movable handholds give flexibility in route setting.

The Wall has beginner, intermediate and advanced routes, with both slab and overhanging sections. A less than vertical section (slab) with many natural features (cracks and a chimney) and lots of handholds is more inviting for beginner climbers. Finger cracks and a large roof will offer significant challenge for the experienced climber.

Wall hours are:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: 7:00pm-10:00pm

The Wall is closed during special events in the SAC.

Climbers can rent all required climbing equipment at the Wall:

Harness is $3 per visit or $10 to reserve for all semester.
Shoes are $2 per visit or $20 to reserve for all semester.
Beginning climbers must first take an introductory course ($15 fee).
Experienced climbers must pass a proficiency test ($5 fee).
